Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions, we have answers

Admission y Candidate Profile

TO WHOM IS DEUSTO INVESTMENT CLUB INTENDED FOR?

The Club is tailored for undergraduate and postgraduate scholars at Deusto Business School who harbour a resolute ambition to pursue careers within the highly exacting spheres of high finance and strategic consulting. Beyond exemplary academic transcripts, we seek individuals demonstrating genuine intellectual curiosity and a proven aptitude for leadership

HOW COMPETITIVE IS THE ADMISSION PROCESS?

The selection procedure is fundamentally attitude-driven. The sole formal prerequisite is active enrolment at Deusto Business School. Beyond this baseline, we seek intellectually restless candidates possessing an unyielding commitment to continuous learning, a propensity for forging robust professional networks, and an intrinsic drive to excel within the financial sector

IS PRIOR FINANCIAL EXPERIENCE A PREREQUISITE?

Not in the slightest. The Club serves as a catalyst for professional development rather than a final destination. Our foundational premise is to impart practical market knowledge that transcends traditional academic literature. We do not demand fully formed experts; rather, we look for proactive, analytical minds with an insatiable curiosity regarding the real-world allocation of capital. Our mandate is to supplement university curricula with a strictly empirical approach, prioritising inherent potential over polished credentials

Partner Relations & Professional Careers

DOES THE CLUB GUARANTEE INTERNSHIPS WITH PARTNER ENTITIES?

The Club does not operate as an employment agency, but rather as an accelerator for top-tier talent. We cultivate the ecosystem, the professional network, and the advanced technical proficiency demanded by elite global firms. Whilst membership affords candidates a highly privileged positioning before recruitment committees, ultimate success remains entirely contingent upon individual performance and rigour during the interview process

Operational Dynamics & Activities

WHAT ARE THE CLUB’S WEEKLY ACTIVITIES?

We split our sessions into two types: Junior Sessions and Senior Sessions. The Junior, or «Training», sessions are aimed at first-year students, as well as older members who may be interested in the specific topic. In these, they are equipped with a foundational grounding in core financial concepts such as Asset Valuation, Market Analysis, News Analysis, and Equity Markets, alongside guidance on the Club’s standard operations and advice for university life

On the other hand, Senior Sessions are tailored for students from their second year onwards. These are, in turn, split into three categories: Investment Theses, Events with Companies or Guest Speakers, and Additional Training:

  • Thesis Presentation Sessions: The Sector Analysis teams, comprised of Club members, meet regularly to analyse the markets and select a company to propose for inclusion in the Club’s portfolio. Following an exhaustive analysis of the same calibre found at top investment banks, they pitch their proposal to the members, who then debate and vote on whether it is a position that should be added to the portfolio
  • Events with Companies or Guest Speakers: Both existing corporate partners and new organisations (or speakers) attend special sessions to speak on topics of interest to the Club and its members. In this way, we manage to learn about the industry firsthand from the experts themselves
  • Additional Training: In between Investment Theses and Corporate Events, Board members or the Club’s most senior and experienced individuals host sessions where day-to-day practices in the financial world are explained and put into action. These cover valuation methodologies, market analysis, recommended reading, and short courses, all designed to keep our knowledge sharp

HOW CAN I BALANCE CLUB ACTIVITIES WITH MY ACADEMIC COMMITMENTS?

Astute time management is amongst the foremost executive competencies our members cultivate. Our initiatives are meticulously designed to complement, rather than encumber, your academic pursuits. To this end, our regular proceedings are strategically timetabled, with our Juniors on Tuesdays and Senior on Thursdays

Furthermore, for those members assuming highly active mandates within the analytical or support divisions, it is a foundational principle of the Club that university studies invariably retain absolute precedence. Consequently, all research and operational responsibilities are judiciously allocated and scheduled to accommodate members’ prevailing academic workloads, thereby fostering shared accountability and highly efficient organisational practices

Corporate Partneship

IF I AM A FINANCIEL ENTITY WHY SHOULD I PARTNER WITH THE CLUB?

Partnering with us grants your firm direct and priority access to the most promising and well-trained talent at Deusto Business School. As a corporate partner, you will gain a unique platform to present your company culture, connect with exceptional candidates before they enter the broader job market, and actively shape the next generation of financial leaders through guest lectures, interactive workshops, and practical case studies

Investment Pilosophy & Management

DOES THE CLUB MANAGE REAL CAPITAL MITHIN THE FINANCIAL MARKETS?

Absolutely. The Club actively manages an equities portfolio with assets under management (AUM) exceeding €130,000. Operating with live capital forms the core of our methodology, exposing members to genuine market psychology and demanding a level of rigour, accountability, and analytical precision that no theoretical simulation can replicate

WHAT IS THE CLUB’S PRIMARY INVESTMENT STRATEGY?

Our philosophy is firmly rooted in fundamental analysis and long-term value investing. We do not speculate on short-term market trends. Our objective is to identify companies with structural competitive advantages, robust balance sheets, and exceptional management teams, acquiring them strictly when the market prices them below their intrinsic value

Alumni Network & Mentorship

WHAT ROLE DO FORMER MEMBERS PLAY UPON COMPLETING THEIR UNIVERSITY STUDIES?

Engagement with our institution does not conclude upon graduation. We boast an extensive and cohesive alumni network comprising professionals who currently hold senior positions within premier global financial institutions and strategic consulting firms. These alumni maintain close ties with the Club, frequently returning to deliver exclusive seminars, provide direct career guidance, and serve as high-level mentors to the next generation of analysts
