Deusto Investment Club celebrates its 25th anniversary!
OCTOBER 25TH, 2023 – MAIN AUDITORIUM
Deusto Investment Club, sponsored by Deusto Business Alumni, Fineco, and the Bernaola Foundation, celebrated its 25th anniversary on October 20th with an event featuring Antón Arriola, president of Kutxabank.
The event was attended by 230 people, including Vice-Rector Aitziber Irigoras, Dean of Deusto Business School Álvaro de la Rica, Managing Director of the University of Deusto Gonzalo Meseguer, and Javier Onzain, the club’s founder.
Among the event’s sponsors were Fineco CEO Enrique Sáez and Head of Fixed Income Itziar Mendia, as well as Bernaola Foundation President Javier Déniz and Deusto Business Alumni Communications Director Asier Añibarro.
Also present at the celebration were Iñigo Calvo Sotomayor and Miguel Angel Larrinaga, both professors at Deusto Business School, along with Virginia Gómez, Director of Open Programmes and Executive Education Transfer.
The event began with a speech by the Dean of Deusto Business School, Álvaro de la Rica, in which he spoke about the importance of student associations within the faculty, noting that the Investment Club is the oldest and has the largest number of student members. He expressed his pride in the Club’s history and its role in the education of Deusto students throughout its twenty-five-year existence.
Next, the keynote speaker, Antón Arriola, took the floor. He structured his speech in two parts: how to value a company and how to value oneself. Regarding how to value a company, the speaker emphasized the importance of shared value, long-term sustainability, and social commitment. In this regard, he cited Kutxabank’s historical journey from its inception to the present day, where its profits are directly channeled into social benefit through the foundations that oversee it.
The president of the financial institution also offered attendees some advice on how to value themselves. Drawing on his own life experience, he mentioned values such as perseverance, critical thinking, and work-life balance. He also emphasized the importance of hard work in one’s career, as well as a thirst for knowledge, something he has cultivated through his studies in the humanities and his work as a novelist.
